A Destination

Founded in 2012, Bella Terre Vineyard & Reception Hall was established at 23375 Barrus Road in Glenwood, Iowa. The Italian villa, immersed in the Loess Hills, consists of 38.54 acres and is built with quality materials typically found in traditional Tuscan landscapes.

Nestled in the rolling hills of Southwest Iowa, Bella Terre includes the beauty and aesthetics of an authentic Italian vineyard. The original owners, John & Debora Scanlan, have spent their lives traveling and photographing the most breathtaking countries in the world. They specifically shared a divine love for the charming culture of Italy and had always dreamed of bringing that love closer to home by planting a vineyard. Fueled by their creative passions, they turned what used to be a storage shed into a beautiful Italian-style villa that sits on 8 acres of luscious grape vines. The design concept was meticulously curated from their experiences over the many months they spent traveling through the towns and villages of Italy. The building is covered with ornate details from the balconies to the walls, right down to the realistic bird poop painted on the floor. The inspiration for the colors and textures comes from the scenery of iconic cities like Portofino, Florence, and Positano. The vineyard represents the beloved Chianti region of Tuscany and the gates that overlook the valley come from a garden that rests on Lake Como. Between these intricately romantic gates, the wedding ceremonies take place. Bella Terre is truly a destination. It is a work of art created for the celebration of love and happiness. A one-of-a-kind venue, with a one-of-a-kind experience, and we would love for the experience to be yours.
